Two Norwich City Council initiatives

Norwich City CouncilI have today discovered two eco related initiatives from Norwich City Council

1. The Norwich Independent Climate Change Commission. I have to say that I was not previously aware of this organisation. Their page on the Norwich City Council web site states as follows:

In November 2009 Norwich City Council agreed to establish and support the Norwich Independent Climate Change Commission (NICCC) to seek the views of local people on the impact of climate change.

NICCC’s board consists of representatives from a wide range of experts and people involved in the city, including businesses, faith groups, the media, political groups and Norwich City Council. It will analyse the consultation findings and make recommendations on how the city council and other local people and organisations might better prepare for a more sustainable future.

You can download the form from here (it is towards the bottom of the page) and it needs to be returned by 12 February. The form mentions an online applicaion form, but I have not been able to find a link for this. If you know where it is, please make a comment and provide a link. However I expect it would be all right for you to fill in the pdf and post it back to the address given.

Norwich Eco Awards2. The Norwich Eco Awards.  These are being done in association with the Norwich Evening News.  There are four categories:

  • Business (two groups – small business with under 50 staff and large business with 50 and over staff)
  • Schools, eg projects on climate change, reduced water use, green travel plans etc
  • Community groups, helping the environemnt of Norwich in some way
  • Eco hero : “All entries will be put forward to win the eco hero award, which recognises the hard work of an individual or group to improve the city, making it a cleaner and safer place to live and work.”

The closing date for applications is 29 January.  You can download application forms here (at the bottom of the page).

Thanks for the info, thats the first I’ve heard of the NICCC. They sound very official, I wonder what they’ll be up to.
Eco-awards sound interesting too, no details as to when they’re taking place yet although the deadline for nominations is Jan 29th.
The question is, who is our local eco-hero? I’ve got a few suggestions…

You can download the PDF then e-mail it to the thebigquestion@norwich.gov.uk

    Here is the form:

They also have a Face Book group – Look for The Norwich Independent Climate Change Commission

But if you complete a pdf form online using adobe reader, it will not normally (so far as I am aware) save, to allow you to then email it on to someone.

It is not really apparent, once you have downloaded the form, how EXACTLY it can be emailed off to the committee.

It would have been easier to have a form online where people click a submit button at the end of the form to email it off to the committee.

It would be interesting to know how many people have been able to deal with this technical problem and submit a reply.

  • Anaximander's Sandal says:

the award “recognises the hard work of an individual or group to improve the city, making it a cleaner and safer place to live and work.”

Sounds like a shoe-in for our lowly-paid street cleaners or our hard -working police service then? Or will it go to someone for planting a tree or two?
