Bure wind project for the prison at Coltishall

wind turbineAfter having written about the wind project for North Walsham yesterday, I was delighted to see another article in the press about wind power in Norfolk, this time for the new prison at the old RAF base at Coltishall.

Although plans to build an etown there have been dropped, it seems that when planning permission to… Continue reading

The Pre Budget Report – what it means for green policies

(This information is taken from a report sent to me by the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes, part of the Energy Saving Trust)

The Pre-Budget Report announces £400 million over the next two years (including funding reprioritised from other non-environmental programmes) to support green growth and the development of low-carbon technologies, building on the £1.4 billion package announced at Budget 2009. This will be part-funded through a £150 million… Continue reading

North Walsham community will not allow vandals to derail wind farm project

After being saddened by seeing several NIMBY type objections to wind farms reported in the press today, I was cheered to read that the residents of North Walsham take a different attitude.

The North Walsham project was set up by Unity Wind Limited, a co-operative, to encourage renewable wind energy production in Norfolk..  Two wind turbines will eventually generate clean energy, the profits from which will largely benefit local… Continue reading

Paper power

News ReportI was intrigued to read on the BBC news site here and here about some new research on storing energy in paper batteries instead of (as now) metal ones.

It seems that although at present the paper batteries are very small and only sufficient to power a light bulb, if they can… Continue reading

Marching for a green (or is it blue?) future ..

A lot of politics is to do with political marches.  As someone who has only recently become involved in politics I have been on very few. Unlike my husband Graeme, who has been on many.

Marchers in St Stephens, NorwichHowever Saturday 21 November saw my son and I up for the climate change march in Norwich… Continue reading

Gassing about gas

You would have thought that businesses would do the… Continue reading

Introducing the Garden

It is rather a beautiful morning today and I feel I ought really to be doing something in the garden. Indeed I have just gone out there with that intention. But it is cold, and everything is still wet from recent rain Maybe I’ll write about it instead.

Heritage broad beansThe garden is, frankly, a mess at the… Continue reading

Climategate

Reading the paper today, it seems that the confusion caused by the UEA climate scientists’ emails revealed by hackers is so serious, it is threatening to derail the climate summit, shortly to take place in Copenhagen.

Some people seem to be taking the emails as proof that climate change warnings are just a lot of rubbish. For example John Delingpole in the Telegraph who is advising people… Continue reading

Carbon footprints by constituency

An interesting article I have just found on the BBC News web-site looks at some research obtained by the BBC’s Politics Show from data experts at Experian.  This breaks down  the UK population into 10 different categories depending on their carbon emissions. Figures are given for all 648 parliamentary constituencies, and the BBC report shows the results in a map form.

However the main point of the article… Continue reading

Hello world!

Welcome to this, the first post in my Green Blogging Blog.

I have been a supporter of green causes all my life. However so much of our time is taken up with general living the life things, such as developing our careers, trying to stay solvent, and looking after the family, that it is difficult to give as much attention to green living as perhaps we should. I do… Continue reading
